Let me say I love Tim Burton, Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. So why did I hate this movie? The visuals were typical Burton and quite stunning. Too Much singing? I didn't care at all about "Mr T" getting his revenge. By the end of the movie I hated him. Mizz Carter was the most enjoyable, and seeing Borat and professor Snape get their throats slashed ( repeatedly ) was nice as well.
But I say Skip it. Rent it if you must. on 99 cent day.
Sarah brightman returns in January with "Symphony" and it appears to feature a duet with kiss' Paul Stanley. wtf? Then again, she did a duet with Tom Jones that was suprisingly awesome so I'm sure the whole thing will completely RULE but sell nowhere near as many copies as all the complete shit that is popular in the US.
I'm mean, classical crossover Diva or shitney spears? Bitch, Please.
EARTHA KITT ORIGINAL ( the best )( with the added bonus of spliced in trannies!)
MADDONA'S VERSION ( 2nd best )
RUPAUL'S VERSION ( actually quite excellent )
KYLIE MINOGUE'S VERSION ( I love me some Kylie, but very EH! )
meh.
this is probabbly my favorite Xmas song of all time and probably because even when he was straight, george michael was the gayesy of all gays that ever lived in gayland. I hear some dancey cover of this today by Cascada and was offended to my very bones. Sacrelige!
I don't have anything profound to say but wanted to share this Annie Lennox version of Cole Porter's "every time we say goodbye" and a little story.
It was 1992 and had bought the Tribute cd with the song on it the day before I saw my Friend Aaron in the hospital. I asked him if he had heard the song and he said he had heard it and found it fitting for his life at the time. We played a game of chess and he kicked my ass as he had for the last year and then We made a date to play pictionary the next day. I hugged him goodbye and went off to class.
He died peacefully in his sleep that night after a long battle with AIDS. He was the first person I Knew in a long sad list of Friends that I loved and miss dearly.
My favorite bar, Manray, the place I have loved to hang out, meet friends and get blasted at for the last 8 years, is closing. as Of Today. the entire block is being ripped down for condo's of course.
I Have a lot of great memories of that place and have made a lot of friends there. ( Yeah, friends! I know what you're thinking! )
Sad, that place is my very own "cheers", laugh as you may.
So Long & Thanks for the Memories!
a little tour during the day:
I'm a week behind, but whatever. Thanskgiving with the Swenty's was low key, relaxing and quite marvelous. Great food, great friends and good times. Thanks Pat, Jenny & Steven. Pictured is my totally picturesque green bean casserole. A loungey day followed by a 2nd thanksgiving at private party at manray where I got my helping of sweet potatoes. Thanks, Tommy!
I'm in a funk and I can't shake it. Can't shake this cold/sore throat combo and I'm not sleeping. Bah! Slipping in an out of bad moods as well. Just caught myself telling tanq that she needs to stop acting like such an asshole because she can understand what I'm saying, obviously.
what is my problem?
the new goldfrapp album is called "the seventh tree". gone is the electro disco, replaced with a faintly 60's soft pop feel. in fact, a few songs could have been on the air back then. it,s light, airy and atmospheric. faves are "road to somewhere", "eat yourself" and "monster love".
it's utterly gorgeous and it's out in Feb.
Saw Kathy griffen here last weekend with jeni, Mike and Bree. Mike, percy & Matt were also there and we met them before for cocktails at bus stop.
this woman is just fucking hilarious. Great crowd, but had a hard time hearing her a lot of the time. Enjoyed it immensely, especially when she said "where are my gays?" and most of the crowd roared.
I'd say her live show is vastly funnier than anything I've seen on her tv show.
